Last week, municipalities across the Lower Mainland were busy issuing building permits ahead of the March 22, 2026, Metro Vancouver DCC increase, allowing eligible projects to benefit from the 24-month in-stream protection introduced in March 2024.

Projects in the Fraser Valley that secured permits before the deadline saved approximately $17,272 per single-family lot, $15,779 per townhouse unit, $10,426 per apartment unit, and $7.80 per sq.ft. for commercial space.

Strategically timing approvals can make a meaningful difference to project returns. Last week, two of our projects secured building permits ahead of the increase and benefited from the lower rates. Reach out to Common Ground Consulting to help position your project to do the same.
